Letter of intent for LNG retrofits

Signing the LOI at Europort 2017: Gerd Wessels (left) and Guido Försterling

The first project of this kind was successfully completed earlier this year on board the 1,000-TEU container ship Wes Amelie.
The propulsion system will again be supplied by MAN Diesel & Turbo. Gerd Wessels, managing partner of the shipping company, commented: “We would like to continue this successful cooperation. With the pilot project of retrofitting the Wes Amelie, we have proven that a shift to environmentally friendly LNG is possible. This is a right step in the right direction.”
“The order intake of more retrofitting jobs is now a consequent step. With the experiences from the pilot project, German Dry Docks will be able to process them significantly more efficient and thus offer them more competitively,”
added Guido Försterling, CEO of the German Dry Docks Group.

Yesterday, the German shipping company Wessels Reederei signed a letter of intent (LOI) with German Dry Docks Group for retrofitting three further container vessels to LNG propulsion.
