Launch of Scandlines ferry

The ferry “Berlin” is due to go into service in March 2012

The “Berlin” and her sister vessel “Copenhagen”, also currently under construction at the shipyard, have been designed to offer significantly more space for passengers and vehicles. With a length of 169m and a width of 24.8m, both vessel will be able to carry either 460 cars or 90 lorries as well as up to 1,500 passengers, more than doubling previous capacities on the Rostock-Gedser route, where the ferries will be deployed.
Fuel consumption and emissions are said to be reduced to a minimum for the benefit of both economic efficiency and the environment. With a draught of 5.5m, the ferries will reach a maximum speed of 20.5 knots.
The interior design of the new ships comes courtesy of French architects AIA. The ferries’ catering concept includes a buffet restaurant, à la carte restaurant, cafeteria and self-service restaurant/café as well as snack and drink vending machines. In addition, customers can make use of a shopping and gaming areas and fully equipped conference rooms on board the ferries.

The new Scandlines ferry “Berlin” was recently launched at the P+S shipyards in Stralsund, Germany.
