Launch of first European-built dual-fuel tugboat

During the launch ceremony of the tugboat

It is the first in a series of three tugboats currently under construction for the Norwegian shipping company Østensjø.
Designed by Canada's Robert Allan Ltd, the new escort tug, 40.2m long and 16m wide, will provide tug services for the Norwegian state-owned energy company Statoil at the Far North LNG terminal in Melkøya, Norway. Built to withstand freezing cold, the vessel is able to work in temperatures of -20ºC, Gondan says. Providing environmental sustainability through the use of LNG in most operations, the vessel also has the flexibility of diesel power to ensure a high level of operational security.
Gondan says the tugboat will remain moored at the yard's quay for the next few months while being outfitted. Delivery is planned in 2017.

Spain's Gondan Shipyard has announced the launch of what it says is the first European-built dual-fuel tugboat from its facilities in Figueras, Spain.
