Russia’s PAO Sovcomflot (SCF Group) has commissioned the SCF Timmerman, a 174,000m3 LNG carrier, built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries. Sponsored by Ekaterina Grushetskaya, Shell Russia’s vice president for Conventional Oil and Gas, the vessel was named on January 12th, delivered on January 15th, and has now embarked on her first commercial voyage for long-term charterer, Shell.

The SCF Timmerman is the third in a series of ‘Atlanticmax’ LNG carriers ordered by SCF Group in 2018. The first two vessels, SCF La Perouse and SCF Barents on charter to Total and Shell respectively, were delivered during 2020. The ships have Mark III Flex cargo containment systems, slow-speed, dual-fuel X-DF engines, and NOx emission reduction systems. They are also the first LNG carriers to have boil-off gas partial reliquefaction systems, reducing cargo losses on long voyages and while preparing for cargo operations.

SCF Group’s CEO, Igor Tonkovidov, commented: “SCF Group and Shell enjoy a long-standing, mutually beneficial partnership. Shell is amongst the biggest charterers of SCF’s vessels. By adding another vessel to our gas fleet and expanding our cooperation with Shell, we contribute to achieving our strategic goals of solidifying our position in LNG shipping and growing our portfolio of long-term, fixed-income contracts, which provide SCF with stable cash flows resistant to freight market fluctuations.”

The timecharter with Shell is worth USD 165 million.
