Kotug Smit Towage names two new tugs

The two tugs were built by Damen

The tugs are two out of four newly built tugs commissioned by Kotug Smit Towage during 2017 and 2018 for European harbour towage duties. Both of the latest tugs will operate in the Port of Rotterdam.
The Rotterdam is an azimuth stern drive (ASD) 2913 tug with a bollard pull of more than 80 tonnes. The Beagle is an azimuth tractor drive (ATD) 2412 twin-fin unit with a bollard pull of 72 tonnes. The naming of the two tugs was timed to coincide with Kotug Smit Towage’s annual Maatjes Party which marks the beginning of the herring season.
The company was established in April 2016 as a result of the merger of the European harbour towage services of Kotug, a Kotug International group company, and Smit, a Boskalis subsidiary. The company now operates harbour towage services in 12 European ports in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

Two new Damen tugs, Rotterdam and Beagle, have been named at a ceremony in Rotterdam.
