Norway’s Kongsberg Maritime (KM) has won a nine-vessel deal to supply heavy-duty towing winches for tugs to be built at Turkey’s Med Marine. With this new contract, KM is now supplying winches for 16 vessels on order at the shipbuilder.

The Escort Series winches will be fitted to azimuth stern drive escort tugs. A popular choice among tug operators, KM towing winches are now to be found on hundreds of vessels around the world, the company claimed.

Med Marine Procurement & Technical Group Manager, Ertuğrul Çetin, said: “We are pleased to collaborate with Kongsberg Maritime on these projects. We are confident that this partnership will greatly enhance the mutual interests of both parties in the development of a successful business relationship. Together with Kongsberg, we believe we are in an ideal position to meet the growing customer demand for Med Marine’s cutting-edge tugs.”

Speaking for KM, Arto Salo, senior sales manager for Towing Winches, commented: “I am very pleased that we were able to close such a large deal and I would like to extend my gratitude to the regional team in Turkey who worked hard on this contract and were key to the final negotiations.”
