Kongsberg Maritime has unveiled a new range of modular tunnel thrusters suitable for a wide range of ship types. The TTH series has a various benefits including a compact design that can be easily integrated with ships’ hulls, a core module that accommodates several propeller diameters, and hydrodynamically optimised blades for higher efficiency and less noise and vibration, Kongsberg said in a statement.

The TTH range, which is suitable for the highest Baltic ice classes, Polar Class 6 and 7, is compatible with equipment health monitoring systems and is available with environmentally friendly sealing systems. Meanwhile, the clearance between the propeller blade tip and the tunnel plating has been increased, making installation easier and reducing the risk of paint erosion.

Kongsberg’s vice president Product Management, Thruster Systems, Anton Westerlund, commented: “This enhanced and harmonised thruster range was developed based on our experience and expertise of over 60 years. The range offers performance and easy installation, something that is demanded by several vessel segments, and we will continue to develop the range to eventually meet the needs of owners in every segment, from workboats to large cruise ships.”

The thruster range can be installed on ships with both controllable pitch and fixed pitch propellers and is fully interchangeable with existing Kongsberg type TT thrusters.
