During the keel-laying ceremony, the first fully assembled part of the ship - measuring approximately 19m in length, 19m in width, and weighing about 390 tonnes - was laid on the bottom of the shipyard’s dry dock. Like its sistership, Mein Schiff 4 is being built using separate blocks that are welded together in the yard’s building dock. Launching of the ship will take place in September 2014 and delivery is scheduled for spring 2015. The two 99,500gt cruise vessels will have an overall length of approximately 294m and a beam of about 36m each. Accommodation is provided in 1,253 cabins on 15 decks.
With Mein Schiff 3 and Mein Schiff 4, using highly innovative technology to support environmentally friendly ship operation, TUI Cruises said it will be setting benchmarks within the industry. Each vessel will consume about 30% less energy compared with cruise ships of similar sizes.

Approximately nine months after the keel-laying of TUI Cruises’ first newbuilding Mein Schiff 3, the cruise operator and STX Finland have celebrated the keel-laying of Mein Schiff 4 at the Turku shipyard.
