Keel-laying ceremony for cruise ship

Directors of the American shipping company were recently joined by representatives of German shipbuilder Meyer Werft for the keel-laying ceremony
The traditional “lucky cent” was placed under block 45 of the ship by Andy Stuart, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, Harry Sommer, executive vice president of Norwegian Cruise Line International, and David Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line China.
“Today we have placed the first of about 80 blocks in our building dock,” said Bernard Meyer, managing director of Meyer Werft.
The Norwegian Joy is the fourth of six ships being built by Meyer Werft for Norwegian Cruise Line through 2019. After completion, it will begin its first voyage to China in summer 2017. The ship has been developed specially for the Asian market and will be used solely for Chinese passengers.
Measuring 324m in length and 41.4m in width, the newbuild will have capacity for 4,200 passengers. According to Norwegian Cruise Line, it will combine all the advantages of the Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Escape and has an additional deck to offer passengers many added features and attractions.
