The lucky coin was placed under the first 938-tonne block by Kevin Douglas and Sebastian Brunila from Royal Caribbean International.
The first steel components for the Spectrum of the Seas had already been fabricated at the Meyer Werft Laser Center in August and construction of the vessel is well underway in preparation for a spring 2019 delivery. Similar ships in Royal Caribbean’s Quantum Ultra-class, Quantum of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas, and Ovation of the Seas, which have capacity for about 4,200 passengers, were introduced by the cruise line in 2014, 2015 and 2016, respectively.
