Jumbo signs LOI for new LNG-powered offshore construction vessel

Netherlands-based heavy lift specialist and offshore construction contractor Jumbo has signed a letter of intent with China Merchants Industry Holdings for the engineering and building of a dual fuel heavy lift crane vessel (HLCV) with DP2 capability.

The 185m-long HLCV, which has been designed in cooperation with Ulstein Design and Solutions BV, will feature that company’s distinctive X-BOW® for improved seakeeping. This will shorten transit times and enable the vessel to work in more severe weather conditions.
The HLCV will have two offshore mast cranes built by Huisman Equipment BV with a lifting capacity of 2,200 tonnes and 400 tonnes and water depth ratings of 3,000m each. It will also have a moon pool and will be delivered prepared for flexible pipelay.
The vessel is intended for the increasingly demanding offshore construction market and will be deployed on the installation of wind turbine foundations, the setting up and commissioning of fixed oil and gas plant in shallow waters, the installation of mooring systems and floating structures in deeper waters, and other subsea construction projects.
