Netherlands-based Jumbo Maritime has released details of its L-Class heavy-lift transport vessels (HLTV), designed in partnership with Rotterdam ship design firm, Vuyk Engineering. The two vessels, to be built at Dajin Heavy Industry in China, are designed for offshore transport and lifting operations and combine substantial cargo capacity with a lifting capability of up to 2,400 tonnes.
The ships will carry a range of heavy cargoes including wind turbine components, modules and carousels. They will have one large cargo hold, two Huisman heavy-lift cranes, and a large deck area for project cargo.
The design incorporates key aspects of Vuyk Engineering’s wide experience of heavy-lift vessel design. Fuel efficiency and optimal service speeds were top priorities.
Vuyk Engineering director, Floris Toetenel, said: “We are proud that Jumbo Maritime once again selected Vuyk Engineering for their new vessels. Together with Jumbo Maritime, the focus has been on jointly defining a new vessel series that can both transport and handle heavy cargo offshore, efficiently using its own cranes.”
The first vessel is scheduled for delivery during the third quarter of 2028.
