Jensen supplies design for new US west coast tug boats

The new tug will be deployed on the US west coast

Seattle-based naval architect and marine engineering firm Jensen Maritime is providing the design for up to ten Tier IV tractor tug boats being built by Nichols Brother Boat Builders for Foss Maritime.

Initially, four of the 90-short ton craft will be built, based on Jensen’s Valor tug boat design, of which nine have already been built and five remain under design or construction. The new vessels for Foss Maritime will be deployed on the US west coast.
The 100ft-long multifunctional vessels will carry out ship assist, escort and towing functions. Equipped with aftertreatment technology to reduce emissions, they will be powered by twin Z-drive propulsion units and will carry sufficient fuel for long trips. The Subchapter M-compliant vessels will incorporate a number of advanced safety features, including a 900 gallon-per-minute fire pump and monitor, powered by a generator on board.
