Hyde Guardian® BWTS selected for icebreaker in Russia's Rosmorport fleet
The contract is the first awarded to Hyde Marine in Russia. Built at Baltic Shipyard, the vessel will be delivered to the federal state unitary enterprise (FSUE) Rosmorport in 2015.
The chemical-free Hyde Guardian BWTS consists of two steps for the treatment of ballast water: automatic backwashing depth filtration and UV disinfection. The filter and UV are used during ballasting, and the water receives a second dose of UV prior to discharge. The Hyde Guardian system offers a compact, modular design with low power consumption, low-pressure drop, and simple, fully automatic operation, according to the US-based manufacturer.
In 2011, the Hyde Guardian BWTS became the first to gain type approval from the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS). The RS type approval allows the units to be installed on any Russian-flagged vessel and was granted for the entire range of treatment capacities from 60m3/hr to 6000m3/hr.
