Høglund will collaborate with HB Hunte Engineering to develop fully customised tank and FGSS installations for the six ships.
The Hurtigruten retrofit project breaks new ground because it is the first time that large passenger vessels are being converted to operate on LBG, a fossil-free renewable gas produced from organic waste including food and rotting fish.
Høglund Gas Solutions’ director Projects, Peter Morsbach, said: “We are tremendously excited to be involved in such a forward-looking project, which will undoubtedly set a new benchmark for low-carbon emissions in the rapidly evolving cruise sector.”
Operating out of Hamburg, Høglund Gas Solutions will provide a customised and integrated FGSS including process design and related automation. HB Hunte will supply mechanical gas engineering and gas tank design. Høglund will also provide overall project management and 24/7 after-sales support services.

Norwegian coastal and expedition cruise operator, Hurtigruten, has signed up Høglund, a specialist in marine systems and integration, to provide biogas-ready fuel gas supply systems (FGSS) for six of its vessels, which are being upgraded to burn liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied biogas (LBG), instead of marine gasoil.
