Norway’s Høglund is to supply automation and energy systems for four multi-fuel chemical tankers ordered by Norwegian chemical tanker operator, Utkilen, at Icdas in Turkey. The 6,700dwt tankers will be delivered from 2024 and will operate in the Baltic and North Seas.

An important element is crew engagement. Høglund’s integrated automation system will provide ship personnel with full access to operational data which can then be used to optimise ship performance.

Høglund will supply automation and power management, hybrid electric, digital and fuel gas supply systems (FGSS), the company said in a statement. The hybrid-electric components are being developed together with Can Makina, a Turkish marine engineering and manufacturing company. Høglund will supply its own FGSS which can operate with liquid biogas as an alternative to LNG.

Siri-Anne Mjåtvedt, Utkilen CEO, commented: “We chose to partner with Høglund due to its established track record for successful deliveries of complex marine technology. Høglund’s integrated systems provide the tools needed to enhance vessel performance, safety, and environmental credentials, making for a safer, cleaner, and more reliable fleet.”
