Havyard wins contract for two, option one, live fish carriers

Norway’s Havyard has won a contract from Norsk Fisketransport (NFT) for two live fish carriers, also known as wellboats, with an option for a third ship.

The two firm vessels are numbers five and six in a series of Havyard 587 designs built for NFT. The contract, worth more than NOK 1 billion, stipulates delivery dates of December 2020 and June 2021. NFT must declare its option for the third vessel by the end of November this year for a delivery date of November 2021.
The ships have cylindrical fish tanks with good water flow arrangements to ensure that the live fish are kept in good condition during handling and transport. An effective propulsion system and optimised hull design make the Havyard 587 design one of the world’s most efficient and environmentally friendly wellboats, the shipyard group said.
All five of Havyard’s business areas will be involved in the contract including ship design, construction, power and control, fish handling and production services.
