Groupe Beneteau unveils electric yachts

Groupe Beneteau has chosen the Salon Nautic de Paris, open from December 3rd to 10th, to launch two new electric sailing yachts, the Oceanis 30.1 and the First 44, powered by emission-free propulsion systems from Torqeedo GmbH. The new vessels reflect Groupe Beneteau’s sustainability strategy, focusing both on propulsion technology and manufacturing processes.

Gianguido Girotti, CEO of the company’s Boat Division, said: “On the product development side, we are currently focused on reducing the environmental impact in two key areas: composite materials and propulsion systems.”

The First 44 cruiser has already won a Boat Builder Award for Environmental Improvement in Manufacturing Process as a result of Beneteau’s integration of bio-sourced materials and recyclable resin at scale. The vessel is powered by an emission-free Torqeedo cruise pod drive.

Torqeedo CEO, Fabian Bez, commented: “The partnership between Groupe Beneteau and Torqeedo continues to bring exciting new vessels to the market, expanding the opportunities for boaters to go 100% emission-free.”

The two companies are also cooperating on two other Beneteau brands – Excess and Delphia. A hybrid-electric test platform for the Excess 15 is powered by Torqeedo’s Deep Blue sail drive, and fully electric systems are available for both the Delphia 10 and Delphia 11 models.

Delphia brand director, Martin Schemkes, said: “Delphia is redefining the inland waterway cruising experience, making it easier to enjoy and easier on the planet. The technology for what we call ‘mindful cruising’ is here today, thanks to our partners at Torqeedo, and Delphia intends to be 100% electric by 2024.”
