German Navy takes delivery of three new Fassmer lifeboats

Fassmer has delivered three new lifeboats – pictured is the Ludwig – to the German Navy

Built to Fassmer’s well tried and tested design, the three lifeboats have 370 hp inboard engines giving speeds of up to 32 knots. The shipbuilder will also provide the davits required for safe launch and recovery of the boats.
The new vessels will replace outdated lifeboats on three German Navy Task Force Support Vessels (EGVs) – Berlin, Bonn and Frankfurt am Main. The EGVs are to have their on-board accommodation capacity increased to a maximum of 258 persons and the new lifeboats will each have capacity for up in 26 people in a rescue operation. In addition, their flexible design will enable them to be deployed for personal rescue at sea and as tenders for personnel and equipment transfer.

Three new lifeboats – Paule, Ludwig and Hotte – have been delivered by Fassmer, a German shipbuilder specialising in craft including navy and patrol vessels, research and survey ships, offshore vessels and yachts, to the German Navy.
