Further fleet expansion for TUI Cruises

They will be the largest ships ever built in Italy, said Fincantieri chief executive
officer Mr Giuseppe Bono. It is the first cruise ship order TUI has placed in Italy. Previously, TUI placed almost all its cruise ship orders with German yard Meyer Werft. The new ships will be built at the Monfalcone shipyard and delivered in 2024 and in 2026. The ships will set up the backbone of the future TUI Cruises’ fleet. TUI Cruises is a joint venture between Germany’s TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises. Ms Wybcke Meier, chief executive officer of TUI Cruises, said the design is part of the group’s environmental strategy. The order is based
on a prototype project developed by Fincantieri with a high level of energy efficiency, with the two-fold objective of reducing fuel consumption and minimising environmental impact, so meeting the demands of the latest industry regulations.

German-based TUI Cruises has awarded a contract to Italian yard group Fincantieri for construction of two very large cruise ships of 161,000gt of a new concept with liquified natural gas (LNG) propulsion.
