FSG delivers heavy cargo ship

The Rolldock Star is the first of two ships for the Dutch company RollDock BV built by Germany’s FSG

The 151.50m-long multi-purpose vessel has been designed to carry demanding cargo and heavy project loads, mainly in the offshore sector, the shipbuilder noted. Its sister vessel is due for completion and delivery in the spring of 2014. According to FSG, the Rolldock Star has a range of different loading possibilities. Two heavy-duty cranes move cargo weighing up to 700 tonnes. In addition, the vessel is equipped with a stern ramp on which height can be adjusted, and hatch covers, making it adaptable to port piers of differing levels. As a result, individual loads weighing up to 3,000 tonnes can be on- or offloaded in classical RoRo mode. The ship can also be submerged by more than 6m to permit cargo to be floated in or out. Trials of this system have been carried out successfully in the past weeks, FSG noted.

Germany’s Flensburger-Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) has handed over the heavy cargo ship Rolldock Star to its Dutch owner RollDock BV.
