Four new WTIVs to receive Schottel azimuth thrusters
Four new wind turbine installation vessels (WTIV) nearing completion at Jiangsu-based Dayang Offshore Equipment in China, will have Schottel thruster installations for both main propulsion and dynamic positioning operations.
Each WTIV will have two electrically-driven Schottel RudderPropellers type 430 azimuth thrusters for main propulsion. They will also have two Schottel TransverseThrusters type STT 4 for manoeuvrability and position-keeping in dynamic positioning mode.
The 90m-long WTIVs will be capable of installing wind turbines of up to 16MW. They will have accommodation for 100 seafarers and technical personnel, and will work in water depths of up to 60m.
Delivery of the first vessel to Shanghai-based owner, OuYang Offshore, was scheduled for the final quarter of this year. The owner is expecting to commission the other three WTIVs between now and June.
Schottel now has four sites in China – Suzhou, Shanghai, Dalian and Guangzhou – and has a worldwide sales and service network in about 100 locations.
