Swiss-based Sallaum Lines has taken delivery of the first of six pure car and truck carriers (PCTC), Ocean Breeze, from China’s Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding. The 7,500-CEU vessel, with LNG dual-fuel propulsion, has been delivered four months ahead of schedule. The five remaining PCTCs are under construction at Fujian and CMHI Jinling.
The Ocean Breeze, built to ABS class and financed by Chinese institutions including Shenzhen Capital Group, has 13 decks and electric roll-on roll-off systems. It is equipped to carry conventional vehicles, new energy vehicles, and packaged hazardous cargo.
The Ocean Breeze and its sister vessel are a key element of the Swiss company’s strategic expansion of its logistics network in China and the company has opened a new office in Shanghai to support this strategy.
Sallaum Lines chairman, Sami Sallaum, commented: “Our relationship with Chinese partners is rooted in trust, performance, and a shared commitment to sustainable maritime development. The Ocean Breeze showcases not just cutting-edge green technology, but also the power of international cooperation to accelerate the future of shipping.”
Sallaum Lines currently operates a fleet of eight PCTCs ranging in size from 4,000 CEU to 5,130 CEU. They operate on routes to and from Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the US.
