The BigRoll Barentsz was recently delivered
Named the BigRoll Barentsz, it immediately began a multi-year contract with Yamgaz – a consortium comprising Technip of France and the Japanese JGC and Chiyoda corporations – for module transportation as part of the Yamal LNG project in the Russian Arctic.
BigRoll Shipping is having three more state-of-the-art MC-class vessels built: BigRoll Bering, BigRoll Baffin and BigRoll Beaufort. The Finnish-Swedish 1A Ice Class ships are designed to transport major modules and equipment for large energy projects, both on- and offshore, to some of the most remote areas in the world. They can operate in temperatures as low as -55°C.
The Propulsion and Steering Machinery Redundancy (PSMR) class notation in combination with the slender hull ensures reliability, sustainable speeds, short transit times and sound seakeeping behaviour, according to BigRoll. The increased heading control results in lower acceleration forces on the cargo, while the combination of the hull design and propulsion system reduces fuel consumption.
The deck of the MC-class vessels is completely flush and can therefore be used over its full length and width. Other features include a large ballast capacity, strong deck built on a uniform grid of bulkheads and web frames, and dynamic positioning capabilities.
