South Korea’s CY Shipping and Netherlands-based BigLift Shipping have celebrated the christening of the CY Frontier, the first of four new heavy-lift vessel designed for shipments of offshore energy consignments and module installation projects.

The vessel, built at Jing Jiang Nanyang Shipbuilding in China, is the first of four 25,000dwt BC-Class vessels. The second ship, BigLift Pioneer, is due for delivery later this year.

The 180m-long vessels have a completely unobstructed main deck, 140m by 43m, providing a total cargo area of 6,020m2. Cargo can be loaded over the side or the stern using RoRo and skidding procedures while the ship’s ballast system can handle 12,000m3 per hour with advanced tidal compensation.

BigLift Shipping’s managing director, Johan Boer, said: “The BC-Class represents the next step in the development of our Heavy Transport fleet. By combining the proven capabilities of our existing vessels with increased cargo capacity, enhanced flexibility and improved operational efficiency, the BC-Class will enable us to support increasingly complex transport projects around the world.

“With the delivery of BigLift Pioneer later this year and the remaining BC-Class vessels entering service over the coming two years, BigLift Shipping and CY Shipping will operate a fleet of eight Heavy Transport Vessels by mid-2028. This expanded fleet will further strengthen our engineered transport solutions and enable us to support our customers with even greater flexibility, capacity and reliability,” he added.
