First North American-built LNG ferry delivered by Davie Shipbuilding

The Armand-Imbeau II is said to be the first LNG-powered ferry built in North America

The ice-class Armand-Imbeau II, with capacity for 115 cars, eight trucks and 432 passengers, is the first of two sister vessels to be built for ferry operator Société des Traversiers du Québec and is now deployed year-round on the St Lawrence River. The second vessel, Jos-Deschênes II, will be delivered later this year.
The two Lloyd’s Register-classed ferries have Wärtsilä 20DF dual-fuel engines, LNGPac fuel storage and treatment systems, and are propelled by thrusters. A high level of automation will enable relatively small crews to operate the vessels.
The Armand-Imbeau II is the third significant vessel to have been delivered by Davie since 2014. In that year, the company completed by Pride, a sophisticated subsea construction vessel. Earlier this year, the Asterix was launched, the largest naval vessel ever to have been built in a Canadian shipyard.

Canada’s largest shipbuilder, Davie Shipbuilding, has delivered the first LNG-powered ferry to be built in North America.
