First launch at new shipyard in China

The Nordic Trym was launched by using the yard’s new gantry crane

The new shipyard of Honghua Offshore Oil & Gas Equipment Co Ltd in Jiangsu, China, has launched its first ship.

The 83.2m-long IMT982 platform supply vessel (PSV) Nordic Trym has been designed by OSD-IMT, the UK division of Offshore Ship Designers (OSD). It has a deck area of 900m² and can carry 1,360m³ of fuel oil, 770m³ of potable water, 1,010m³ of liquid mud/brine, 1,350m³ of drill water/water ballast, 278m³ of dry bulk and 170m³ of base oil. It has a maximum deadweight of about 3,900 tonnes at a draught of 5.95m.
Its diesel-electric propulsion system comprises four main diesel generators, 2 x 1900 kW frequency controlled electric motor-driven azimuth thrusters for main propulsion and 2 x 800 kW frequency controlled, electric motor driven, tunnel thrusters fitted forward. The Lloyd’s Register-classed vessel is fitted with a DP2 system. It has accommodation for a crew of 27 persons and achieved a trial speed of 14.0 knots.
The vessel is expected to be delivered to its owners, Nordic Offshore Supply Ldt, in April 2015.
