First Havyard 831 SOV design named in Ostend

CTO Kristian Ole Jakobsen of Esvagt is very pleased with the new vessel

The vessel is being deployed on a long-term charter to MHI Vestas Offshore Wind and will provide standby safety and maintenance coverage for technicians working at the Belgian wind farms Nobelwind and Belwind 1.
The Esvagt Mercator is the first of two Havyard 831 SOV vessels for the Danish offshore support operator, which has its headquarters in Esbjerg. A contract for a second vessel was signed earlier this year, with delivery due in August 2019. The ships’ design was developed in close cooperation between Esvagt and the Norwegian design firm and is intended to meet growing demand in the specialised wind farm support sector.
Havyard Design & Solutions is one of several business divisions within the Oslo-listed Havyard Group ASA. It is based in Fosnavåg on Norway’s west coast and has branches in Brazil, Croatia, Poland and Shanghai.

Built in Turkey’s Cemre Shipyard, Havyard Design & Solutions’ first 831 service operation vessel (SOV), until now known as Newbuild 48, has been named Esvagt Mercator at a ceremony in Ostend, Belgium.
