First ConRo vessel of a series of six delivered

The first ConRo vessel was named “Bahri Abha”

The national shipping company of Saudi Arabia Bahri has announced it had received its first newly built ConRo vessel from Hyundai Mipo in South Korea.

It is the first of six vessels that Hyundai Mipo is building for Bahri at a price of USD 70 million each. They will replace the existing vessels and expand the shipping company’s general cargo segment.
The new RoCon vessels are equipped with a loading bridge with a capacity of 250 tonnes, and heavy-lift cranes with a capacity of 240 tonnes, enabling them to load a variety of goods. With a deadweight of 26,000 tonnes each, the vessels are smaller than those of the current fleet while having more cargo lifting capabilities at a lower fuel consumption.
Bahri’s five remaining vessels will be delivered in intervals of three months until March 2014.
