Fire fighting vessel for the port of Bremen

The police of Bremen as well as the fire brigade will use the new FFV

Damen Shipyards recently delivered a 2406 type fire fighting vessel (FFV) to the city of Bremen, Germany.

With an overall length of 23.9m and a breadth of 6m, the “Bremen 1” has a draught of 1.2m. Three main engines, two CAT C12 type with a capacity of 425 kW each and one CAT C18 type with a capacity of 651 kW, provide power for a maximum speed of about 21 knots. In addtion, three waterjets and a 45 kW single bow thruster ensure the ship’s manoeuvrability. The newbuilding is equipped with a large fire pump, which has a capacity of 14,000 l/min at 10 bar. A second and smaller pump of 1,000 l/min is also installed. When extinguishing fires, the “Bremen 1” uses a mixture of water and foam. The foaming agent is stored in two 2,500-litre tanks and can be distributed to all or some of the vessel’s fire fighting monitors. There is also a gas detection system as well as a self-protection water spray system for protecting the vessel in case of heat or fire. Furthermore, the newbuilding is outfitted with a 5.1m-long lifeboat and two hydraulic cranes. The ‘”Bremen 1” replaced its 1975-built predecessor. The police will patrol the port of Bremen and the river Weser with the newbuilding.
