Neptune Shipyards and Dredge Yard in the Netherlands have successfully launched a new type of inland waterways dredger called the Euro Dredger 450.

The Euro Dredger 450 is the first cutter suction dredger resulting from the partnership between the two companies. The vessel is suitable for dredging soft- and medium-compacted sand, and other sediments up to a dredging depth of 10m on inland waters, rivers and lakes. The dredger has a total installed power of 866 kW and consists of three dismountable pontoons fixed by a rigid coupling system inside the pontoon. It is designed to be disassembled easily and to be transportable by road.
The high-performance dredge pump developed and manufactured by Dredge Yard is mounted directly onto the
gearbox to save space and reduce the weight, and it is driven directly by a 634-kW diesel engine. A hydraulic power system of 232 kW is fitted on the main pontoon to supply power to the cutter head, winches and spud hoist cylinders.
The hydraulically driven cutter head has exchangeable cutter teeth that come in three types: pick points, narrow and wide chisels. The blades of the cutter head are double curved to allow for a smooth mixture flow through the cutter and into the suction mouth.
