ETA Shipping of the Netherlands and Western Baltic Engineering (WBE), Lithuania, have started their joint engineering of ETA Shipping’s newbuilding project for a modular freighter which is designed for the European coastal trade.

Called type ETA 6700, the vessel will be capable of changing power generation and power storage in an efficient and effective way without long conversion times. The vessel will be designed to adapt quickly to future and emission-free fuels. The modular design also allows partial change or add-on power generation which makes the ships suitable for testing new technologies in a maritime environment.

Most recently ETA Shipping and TechBinder announce a new strategic partnership to further develop the Smart Vessel Optimizer and bring ETA Shipping’s maritime operation to the next level. The ETA 6700 will be launched with a full stack Smart Vessel Optimizer application embedded.

The first six vessels are set to be chartered by ForestWave Navigation/Schulte & Bruns. These vessels are operated mainly in European waters and the Atlantic Basin.
