Eregli shipyard starts construction of tug for Main Port

With the keel-laying ceremony at Eregli Shipyard of Turkish shipbuilder Med Marine construction has started of a tug ordered by Irish customer Main Port.

The type MED-A2850 vessel is 28m long and 13m wide and will accommodate a crew of eight. The RAstar 2800 vessel has been designed by Canadian marine architects Robert Allan. It will have a bollard pull of about 50 tonnes and speed of about 12.5 knots. Delivery is scheduled for early 2023.

Mainport Group has worked in South America, the Middle East, Africa, Malaysia and the European Union. The fleet consists of eight vessels, including tugs, platform supply vessels, seismic support craft and a seismic chase vessel. Mainport currently employs 200 people covering its shipping, stevedoring, agency operations and worldwide crew.
