Energy efficient propulsion for wind turbine installation vessels

During transport

Both vessels will be handed over  to Singapore-based offshore oil and gas industry service provider Swire Pacific Offshore Operation (Pte.) Ltd. In total, ABB has provided eight Azipod C propulsion systems for the two vessels.
According to ABB, the compact Azipod C marine propulsion system saves space inside the vessels hull for more efficiency in ship design and equipment placement, and can help reduce the fuel consumption by up to 25% while improving the vessels’ maneuvering capabilities. The Azipods for these projects were manufactured by ABB’s new Azipod C factory in Shanghai, China. The Blue Ocean vessels are the pilot projects to be delivered outside China.

The power and automation technology group ABBrecently delivered four Azipod C propulsion systems for the “Blue Ocean II” wind turbine installation vessel built by Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard in South Korea. It is the second order from Samsung Shipyard of this kind, following a similar scope for the “Blue Ocean”, which was completed in September 2011.
