Dismountable dredger design for deeper waters

Damen’s new twin-hulled deep cutter suction dredger, the DCSD500, has been designed to operate at dredging depths hitherto only possible with larger vessels. The dismountable unit has been designed for easy transport in container-sized packages by any transport mode to almost any location, the company said, including coastal or inland sites.
The catamaran has extra buoyancy provided by pontoons forming the outer limits of the vessel to port and starboard. The suction ladder, which is centrally located between the hulls, is fitted with a submerged dredge pump directly driven by a 954-kW CAT type 3512 C TA diesel engine. The 110-kW cutter can break up compacted soil and the dredge pump is capable of handling about 4,000m3 per hour.
The new design makes dredging possible to depths of up to 25m.
