Delivery taken of “CMA CGM Leo”

New built vessel “CMA CGM Leo”
Built by Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyards, the “CMA CGM Leo” is the fifth vessel in a series of 12 carriers of that type ordered by the CMA CGM Group scheduled between 2010 and 2011.
This new building, registered in Valetta, will be one of the largest containerships sailing under Maltese flag. A second vessel of the Group to follow shortly will also be registered in Malta. CMA CGM Group has been present in Malta for many years, operating the Malta Freeport Terminal.
360 m long and 45 m wide “CMA CGM Leo” is one of the first vessels of the group to receive the new Bureau Veritas classification notations Clean Ship C and FORS. These notations confirm the environmental performance of the vessel which is equipped with innovative environmental-friendly features such as an electronically controlled engine, reducing oil and fuel consumption, a fast oil recovery system as well as a leading edge rudder and an optimized hull design improving the vessel’s hydrodynamics, thus reducing its carbon emissions.
“CMA CGM Leo” has taken up service on the FAL 5 (French Asia Line) between Asia and Europe. The sister vessel “CMA CGM Pegasus” is to follow shortly and will join FAL 5 as well.
