Dubai-based Drydocks World (DDW) and partners Antwerp-based Exmar and Italian energy company Eni have converted two LNG carriers into a floating liquid natural gas (FLNG) facility for deployment in the Republic of Congo. In the first-of-a-kind project, the two ships have been joined together using a 'spread mooring’ system developed and patented by Exmar.

The Tango FLNG and Excalibur floating storage unit (FSU) will be sited at Eni’s Marine XII block, off the coast near Pointe Noire in Congo. The combined assets will gather, liquefy, store, and offload LNG at the energy company’s facility.

The five-month conversion involved the manufacture by DDW of 12 steel mooring foundation structures, totalling more than 4,000 tonnes of steel. These elements are principal components in the combined spread-mooring setup.

CEO of Drydocks World, Capt. Rado Antolovic, commented: “This high-profile project, completed under the highest industry standards, in partnership with our long-standing customers, Exmar and Eni, underscores our unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation in the maritime industry. Our dedicated team delivered a fast-tracked project tailored to the needs of our clients and maintained exceptional quality throughout. We have a robust solutions-oriented system to deliver sustainable solutions that support cleaner energy usage across the maritime and energy sectors.”
