Damen Shipyards Group majority-owned Norwegian shipyard, Folla Maritime Service AS, has landed a contract with salmon farming company, Nova Sea, based in northern Norway, for delivery of a sixth hybrid workboat.
The FollaPower 50EL workboat will be number 106 from the Folla shipyard in Flatanger, It is the next step in the salmon farming company’s strategy to replace existing vessels with more environmentally friendly and sustainable boats.
The single-hull vessel, 15m long and 8m wide, will have two electric motors, a 444-kWh battery pack, and two electric thrusters. The arrangement generates low noise and an improved working environment for crew members. A generator can assist with propulsion and battery charging when necessary.
Folla Maritime Service managing director, Otto Sjølien, commented: “Folla Maritime and Nova Sea have had a close partnership for some time, and we are proud to have once again earned their trust with the signing for another vessel. The FollaPower 50EL has been developed in close collaboration with Nova Sea, and this confirms the already strong and positive relationship between our shipyard and Nova Sea as our customer.”
Damen acquired a majority stake in Folla Maritime Service in April, extending the Netherlands shipbuilding group’s expertise into the aquaculture sector.
