Damen has won a contract from Romania’s General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations for two Stan Patrol 5009 emergency response vessels, a multi-role search-and-rescue ship and a multi-role fire-fighting vessel. The two ships, to be completed at Damen Shipyards Galati, will have an endurance of up to three days at sea, a range of 2,000 nautical miles at cruising speed, and a maximum speed of 22 knots.

The search-and-rescue ship will be capable of evacuating about 50 people in an emergency while the fire-fighting vessel, with FiFi-1 notation, will be able to take at least 30 people on board. A range of fire-fighting spray nozzles includes one on top of a hydraulic arm that can be extended to tackle the heart of a fire in an elevated position.

Both vessels will also have a winch area for helicopter operations, fast rescue boats, scope to launch drones and autonomous water vehicles, and sophisticated communication and navigation systems to work in parallel with other vessels, vehicles and aircraft.
