Damen wins New Zealand fishing contract
Damen Maaskant is to design and build a new scampi fishing vessel for New Zealand seafood company, Sanford Limited.
The design, based on a Damen Sea Fisher 3210, will be developed jointly by the two companies to incorporate the latest standards of sustainability, comfort, and safety for operation in the Southern Ocean. The diesel-electric fishing vessel, due for delivery in 2025, will rate highly in energy efficiency, with all power consumers on board running on electricity.
Damen Shipyards’ regional sales director, Pim Schuurman, commented: “We are very grateful that Sanford gives us the confidence by ordering a fishing vessel that will contribute to Sanford’s target of reducing the carbon footprint from its direct operations at sea.”
The Stellendam shipyard has specialised in the design, construction and repair of fishing vessels and workboats for almost three quarters of a century.
