Damen Group has been awarded a contract to design a new offshore terminal tug for U.S. offshore and shipbuilding group Edison Chouest Offshore. Chouest will initially build two ASD (Azimuth Stern Drive) Tugs 5016 at its Louisiana shipyard.

Damen has designed the 50m-long ASD tug to provide escort, hold-back, hose-handling and maintenance duties off Guyana in South America. The tug will deliver 120 tonnes of static bollard pull. It will also have a hybrid system that will be engaged when loitering. To facilitate hose maintenance, the vessel features a 27m aft deck with hose-flushing equipment and a full-width sump. The type will also carry a workboat to assist in hose-handling operations. The ASD Tugs 5016 will be installed with fire-fighting systems of level FiFi 1 and oil spill response equipment.

Edison Chouest Offshore has secured contracts to assist tankers loading crude from an offshore terminal in Guyana.
