Damen Shipyards has embarked on a project to build three shallow-draught multipurpose support vessels at Albwardy Damen shipyard in Sharjah, UAE. The shipbuilder, which has a strategy of building for stock, does not get have clients for the vessels. But this approach enables standard vessels to be adapted to meet customers’ needs during construction relatively quickly and has proved successful many times before.

The shipbuilder plans to build a 27m-long Multi Cat 2712 for delivery in November next year; a 33m-long Multi Cat 3313 SD (shallow draught) for delivery the following month; and a 27m-long Shoalbuster 2711 for delivery in February 2026. All three types are highly versatile workboats capable of undertaking a wide range of support activities including dredging and offshore installation and maintenance, two of the main areas of anticipated growth in the Middle East region, the company said.

The Shoalbuster 2711, with a bollard pull of 41 tonnes and a draught of just 3m, is fully equipped for towage and has a waterfall winch and deck crane as standard. For very shallow waters, the Multi Cat 3313 SD is well-suited for anchor, hose handling and the shipment of components and containers. It has 200m2 of deck space and a draught of only 2.2m. The Multi Cat 2712 is a fully equipped mid-sized vessel with a bollard pull of at least 30 tonnes and scope to work on a wide range of projects.

Buyers will be able to choose a range of options to customise their vessel and the Damen Service Hub will offer full after-sales support and maintenance services including crew training.
