Damen Shiprepair completes first cruise ship repair for Carnival plc

The cruise vessel Ventura has completed drydocking in Brest

P&O Cruises‘ Fincantieri-built cruise vessel Ventura recently completed a two-week docking at Damen Shiprepair Brest, the first time that a Carnival plc ship has undergone repairs there.

Work on the 116,000gt vessel, delivered in 2008, included the fitting of two exhaust gas scrubbers, a process that involved the design, manufacture and installation of a sea chest. Other work included comprehensive hydro-blasting of the hull prior to repainting, and servicing of the ship’s propulsion systems and stabilisers.
Damen Shiprepair Brest allocated the largest of its three drydocks, Number 3, for the 290m-long vessel. Meticulous planning and close attention to detailed logistics ensured that all subcontractors finished their work on time and the ship’s repairs were completed within the scheduled period.
Patrick Renavot, the shipyard’s managing director, said: "We were delighted that the project was a success. As cruise ships expand in terms of both numbers and size, we hope to see our general activity in this sector grow. With two drydocks of 420m and 338m respectively plus a convenient and easily-accessed location for cruise ships entering and leaving the Atlantic, Damen Shiprepair Brest has much to offer owners and operators looking for yards capable of meeting their specific needs."
