Damen Shiprepair Brest completes maintenance on "gassed-up" LNG carrier

Damen Shiprepair Brest has completed a maintenance programme of the GDF Suez Point Fortin

The yard was chosen by operator MOL LNG Transport (Europe) Ltd and charterer Engie because it is one of the first facilities in Europe capable of carrying out maintenance and modifications on "gassed-up" LNG carriers.
Work on the 290m-long GDF Suez Point Fortin, built in 2010, included the in-water survey carried out by divers, changing the ship’s mooring cables from wire to rope, and full class surveys on the main boilers. A radar dome was also replaced.
Meticulous preparations were required to receive the gassed-up vessel, including obtaining the necessary authorisations from the port authority and agreeing the detailed scope of works prior to the ship’s arrival. Completion of all works within the scheduled time confirms Damen Shiprepair Brest’s position as a leading LNG carrier repair facility in Europe. Similar work was successfully completed earlier this year on LNG carriers including the 154,500m3 Gaselys, delivered in 2007, and before that, on its sistership Provalys.

A full in-water survey and two-week maintenance programme of the 154,200m3 GDF Suez Point Fortin has been successfully completed by the Damen Group’s repair facility in Brest, France.
