Damen lays keel for the marine aggregate dredger

The first MAD will be named CEMEX Go Innovation

The vessel, to be named CEMEX Go Innovation, was ordered by the UK’s Cemex Group and its keel is the first to be laid at the Black Sea shipyard since Damen assumed control of the facility from Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering in July.
Damen said that the MAD has been designed for long-lasting operations in North Sea conditions with particular attention given to sustainability, safety and performance. The vessel will extract sand and gravel from the seabed at depths of up to 55m.
Cemex Marine Aggregates director Kurt Cowdery commented: “This is a fantastic investment for the future, allowing us to safely source the materials we need and enabling us to develop and grow in the UK and Europe.”
Damen Shipyards Mangalia is the largest facility in the group’s portfolio with three drydocks of total length 982m and 1.6km of berthing space. The 48m- and 60m-wide docks also provide capacity to handle larger maritime vessels and structures.

The keel has been laid for the first Damen MAD, described as the next generation of marine aggregate dredgers, at the shipyard group’s Damen Shipyards Mangalia in Romania.
