Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam has completed the conversion of a platform supply vessel (PSV) into a fish feed carrier for Norway Eidsvaag AS. The vessel carries the name Eidsvaag Opal.

The project involved the insertion of a new 5m section to lengthen the vessel, and the addition of a series of side boxes to provide extra cargo capacity and more stability. A cargo hold and 35 new silos were integrated, enabling the vessel to ship up to 2,800 tonnes of fish feed. New cranes, a conveyor discharge system, buckets, elevators and an extensive overhaul of the vessel’s electrical system was also completed.

The PSV was originally built by Damen in 2013. Eidsvaag Opal will be operated by Eidsvaag in the Fjordfrende collaboration, a setup supported by the European Commission with the aim of cutting carbon emissions.
