Damen completes tug delivery just four months after signing
A ceremony in Damen Shipyards Gorinchem has seen the delivery of a Damen ASD Tug 2810, Peter Wessels, to Hamburg-based Neue Schleppdampfschiffsreederei Louis Meyer GmbH & Co KG. Damen’s longstanding strategy of building for stock made the tug’s delivery possible in just four months.
The vessel, with a bollard pull of 60 tonnes, was built at the shipyard group’s Damen Song Cam facility in Vietnam and is the second Damen tug to be acquired by the Hamburg owner. It has already been chartered to Emder Schlepp-Betrieb GmbH and has been deployed in the Port of Emden.
Expressing pleasure at working again with Louis Meyer, Damen sales manager Joschka Bøddeling described the Peter Wessels as a ship of the coronavirus era, with the contract signed remotely and the naming ceremony taking place under strict safety conditions. “But it is proof that life did go on despite everything and our thanks go out to all involved.”
The Damen ASD Tug 2810 has proved a particularly popular tug. More than 150 of these vessels are now deployed around the world.
