Damen begins construction of Antarctic Supply Research Vessel

The 160m-long vessel, which has capacity for 100 TEU, will ship cargo, personnel and equipment between its home port of Hobart, Tasmania, and Australia’s three permanent research stations on the Antarctic continent, as well as another station on Macquarie Island.
The vessel has laboratory and office space totalling 500m² providing a base from which scientists will study the biological, physical, chemical and geological systems of the region. On delivery, the ASRV is expected to support the Australian Government’s Antarctic research programme for the next 30 years.
