Cutter suction dredger series enlarged

Drawing of a CSD650 at work

The Netherlands-based Damen Dredging Equipment said that a larger and more powerful CSD650 cutter suction dredger had joined its standard series.

The design principle of the CSD650, which is based on the Damen standard range, combines a high cutter power with a large swing width for maximum efficiency, according to the company. The total installed power is 2,969 kW. Using a type BP6560MD dredge pump with a mixture capacity of 7,000m3/h the newbuilding works in depths up to 18m. According to Damen, the CSD650 is designed for coastal area operations. It is outfitted with anchor booms for autonomous operation and a spud carriage installation for high efficiency. Various elements such as side and main pontoons can be moved by road or sea; all steel plating of the pontoons is said to be beyond class requirements. The onboard dredge piping is of a 650mm internal diameter.
The CSD650 can be customised effortlessly. For instance, a submerged dredge pump unit is ready to expand the dredging depth up to 22m. In addition to an air-conditioned crew day accommodation unit, the vessel can be equipped with components such as deck cranes, stern swivel, production measurement and positioning software.
