Crowley’s new ConRo christened

The Taino is powered by LNG

The vessel joins its sister ship, El Coqui, which entered service last year. Both ships are powered by LNG and will operate on the route between the US mainland and Puerto Rico.
The 219.5m-long vessels can accommodate up to 400 cars on enclosed ventilated decks and transport them on the 55-hour transit at speeds of up to 22 knots and more. Crowley has also invested in improved terminal facilities and related infrastructure both on the mainland and in Puerto Rico. At the company’s Isla Grande Terminal, a new pier has been built and three ship-to-shore gantry cranes have been commissioned. A new terminal operating system, container staging areas and handling equipment for both refrigerated and dry cargo have also been installed.

The 2,400-TEU container/roll-on roll-off (ConRo) vessel, Taino, built by VT Halter Marine in Pascagoula for Crowley Maritime Corporation, was recently christened at a ceremony in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
